• Does your local organisation have meeting rooms or other spaces?
• Are there times when they are not in use?
• Do you let other people use them?
• Do you have concerns about others making use of them?
If you have answered yes to any or all of these questions The National Institute for Adult Continuing Education (NIACE) would be grateful of your help with an important project.
NIACE has been commissioned by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) to produce practical guidance materials to support a diverse range of organisations to open their spaces for informal adult learning. This initiative is part of the implementation of the Learning Revolution white paper.
Lack of access to convenient, inexpensive space can be an obstacle for groups and individuals who want to organise informal adult learning activities in their community. At the same time, many organisations have buildings with suitable spaces, such as meeting rooms, study areas, IT suites, empty retail space, sports halls and art and craft studios, which are not in constant use during the daytime or at evening and weekends. With encouragement and the right information and support, they could make these facilities available to learning groups to use. Some may already want to open their space, but are unsure how to go about it. Similarly, some adult learning providers may want to open up new learning venues in communities, and need guidance on how to support community-based organisations to make spaces available.
To help to produce the practical guidance NIACE would grateful if you could complete the following short survey before November 30th

The survey is appropriate for all types of organisations whether or not you open up your spaces – all comments will help inform the guide.
