Am I a grumpy old technologist?

I think it’s my age! Despite being part of the Information Revolution, I tend to find some innovations a bit irksome.

The one before last was Twitter. I started with it but then found myself reading conversation about who was on which train and in which airport. The more people I followed the more clogged up I became with this useless information.  Twitter in conferences gets me angry. I’m there listening intently to a speaker and other people’s twitterings are scrolling across the screen which pollutes the experience for me.

The height of bad manners for me was at the conference dinner table when a good percentage of the table have their faces lit up by their twittering mobiles. They may be talking to each other but not to me. Why can’t they use their mouths?

However, I do recognise that an awful lot of business is starting to be done this way and I run the risk of being left outside the loop. Looks like I’ll have to become a twit!

If that wasn’t irksome enough, Microsoft come along with an invention that will just about destroy the art of dinner conversation.

Have a look at Microsoft Surface:
