Grassroots grants for Kirklees groups

Grassroots Grants is a Government funded initiative and will be supporting communities in Kirklees with grants until December 2010. Grants of up to £5,000 are available; the minimum you can apply for is £250.

The maximum amount that can be awarded to any community or voluntary group over the life of the programme is £5,000. You could receive more than one grant from the programme as long as the total received does not exceed £5,000.

Who can apply?

  • Voluntary and community groups
    • Your group would need a constitution but need not be registered as a charity.
    • Your group needs to have been established and active in your local community for not less than 12 months prior to 31 December 2007.
  • Volunteer led groups
    • Your group would need to be run mainly by volunteers.
  • Community and voluntary groups with an income of less than £20,000
    • Your income would need to be less than £20,000 per year taken as an average of the previous three years (or since your group was established if its less than three years old).
  • Groups meeting local need
    • Your group would need to show how it is meeting the needs of local people.

Who can’t apply?

  • Statutory organisations, such as local authorities, schools, hospitals
  • Regional or local offices of national organisations
  • Arms length public sector organisations or any group controlled wholly or in part by a statutory organisation
  • Party political activities
  • Commercial ventures
  • Projects primarily supporting animals and plants
  • Projects supporting asylum seekers that are inconsistent with immigration laws and/or Home Office policy.
